Assessing Competence

Competency assessment measures performance against a bespoke framework that identifies the behaviours or achievements associated with specific levels of competence. We use a multi-facetted approach that enables us to look for proof of delivery and generates an objective picture of each candidate to inform your final interview panel. The result is a robust and knowledgeable assessment.

Dearden Search & Selection can design a process to measure competency that could include:

• A competency based interview
• A written case study
• Presentation
• Observed work with stakeholders on real issues
• Psychometric ability exercises
• Personality profiling using a range of recognised instruments
• Individual sessions with key senior colleagues / stakeholders

Our assessment service is a particular strength and the company was one of only three companies approved to assess candidates for Chief Executive and Director posts affected by the CPLHNS reorganisation.  In less than 2 years we have assessed over 600 candidates for Chief Executive, Director and senior manager posts in PCTs. 

We have also carried out extensive competency assessments for consultant and other clinical appointments.  Our work has resulted in us leading the way in thinking across the UK in the development of Clinical Competency Assessment.
