AREAS OF INTEREST
Sheila has a particular interest in working with clinicians to recognise and understand processes for change. She has worked extensively with health care teams using process redesign methodology to both understand and develop many aspects of service delivery. In particular she has been successful in working with clinicians to engage and harness their support in implementing sustainable change projects. Sheila passionately believes in engagement and involvement of patients and carers in all aspects of service development and improvement and actively seeks out opportunities to work with patients and carers.

CAREER HISTORY
Sheila joined the NHS in 1982 and has extensive experience as both a nurse and a manager. Her most recent NHS roles were within commissioning in a health authority and prior to joining Dearden establishing a clinical network for critical care. Particular skills include strategic planning, project management and stakeholder engagement in implementing change.

CONSULTANCY EXPERIENCE
During the last 5 years Sheila's experience has encompassed a wide range of service delivery areas including strategic planning, service redesign, long term condition management, primary care development and business case production. The linkages across all these areas add value and provide opportunities for cross fertilisation.

Recent assignments have included:

• Development of a framework and processes for engaging with a cross section of patients, carers and the public to gain their views and experiences of unplanned care services

• Project manager for one of the national pilot sites for Information Prescriptions
Supporting a study tour to Kaiser Permanente in North California

• Redesigning a health economy wide pulmonary rehabilitation service for people with severe respiratory disease

• Working across 15 PCTs to establish a shared infrastructure for specialist and collective commissioning

• Supporting a leadership development programme for Community Health Partnerships in Scotland which includes action learning sets

• Supporting the establishment and development of a learning network for Care Trust board members

• Undertaking health needs assessments for palliative care for 3 Cancer Networks
Working with groups of clinicians to provide processes to undertake service reconfiguration – Sheila was part of the team that developed and delivered a process for peer review of diabetes services in the North West Region

Besides holding a Masters Degree, Sheila has several publications and is experienced in presenting at both national and international events.

Having spent many years working with people with diabetes she also has a passion for working to develop systems and process that are person centred and support people with chronic disease making choices that facilitate them in maximising their quality of life.

Sheila is a qualified coach and Myers Briggs Type Indicator Practitioner

Sheila juggles family life with consultancy and has two children who absorb most of her spare time! She also enjoys travel and reading.
