Mark's consultancy work spans human resource management coaching, leadership, organisation development, and workforce planning, development and redesign.
CAREER HISTORY
Mark joined the NHS as a national management trainee in the 1980s and worked in general management and HR roles in acute and community NHS settings. His last role in the NHS was Director of HR and Corporate Affairs in a large, merged acute NHS Trust. Mark is currently Chairman of Dearden Consulting.
CONSULTANCY EXPERIENCE
Currently and recently Mark's consultancy work includes:
• Working as an Interim Director of HR for a number of organisations including a large Teaching Hospital, PCTs and specialist mental health and learning disabilities Trusts. Some of these assignments have been over an 18 month period.
• Developing cultures of high performance within organisations, focusing on developing talent management and putting in place systems, process and attitudes to deal effectively with poor performance
• Coaching senior executives in the NHS including Chief Executives, Directors, managers and senior clinical staff. Mark has coached on national public health leadership programmes, and is an accredited coach with the Centre for Health Leadership Wales, the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement and the Northern Ireland Health Management Centre. He is also approved to use the NHS Leadership Qualities Framework and 360-degree appraisal tool. Mark has been recently asked to coach top civil servants as part of a large Department of Health coaching programme to support individuals through organisational change
• Top team work with a number of NHS Trust boards and senior executive teams including facilitating events and use of the NHS Leadership Centre's 360-degree appraisal tool and MBT
• Workforce planning and development assignments with a number of Workforce Development Confederations/ Strategic Health Authorities and NHS Trusts including South East London SHA and Cheshire and Merseyside SHA. Mark recently reviewed the innovative Health Care Practitioner role at Kingston Hospital on behalf of the Modernisation Agency
• Involvement in large scale organisational changes including facilitating the early learning from the Agenda for Change early implementer sites on behalf of the Department of Health and organising facilitated study tours to Kaiser Permanente in California for whole health communities
• Developing appraisal systems for GPs and other health care staff including running action learning sets for GPs and PEC Nurses
Mark is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and has a postgraduate diploma in personnel management (distinction). With primary degrees from both the UK and the United States, Mark also has an MBA from Henley Management College, an advanced diploma in management consultancy and an advanced diploma in coaching senior executives. Mark is an MBTI Step one and Step two accredited practitioner.
Mark lives in Henham in North Essex and is a keen rugby supporter (his days of playing are now over!). He is a PADI-qualified scuba diver and enjoys combining his pleasure for travelling with diving.
